IISER-K Library
The IISER-K Library, established in 2006, is specialized in Basic Sciences. Its
collection consists of documents (Books, e-books, journals, Multimedia DVDs etc.)
in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Geosciences, Computer
Science, History of Science etc. It is mainly meant for the staff members,
research scholars and students of Indian Institute of Science Education and
Research, Kolkata.
The Library also extends the facility for general reading. Books in Social Sciences, Humanities (in various languages), and several magazines and newspapers are procured for satisfying the users' quests in this regard. The institutional memberships with the American Library and British Council Library (BCL) also serve this end.
The Library has installed Virtua Library Management & Digital Library software form VTLS, USA to fully automate its services. RFID (VTLS-Fastrac) is also put into operation to help in the for management and security of the documents.
The book collection amounts to 25,661 [14,401+ in print and 11,260 electronic].
Besides the books and e-books, the Library subscribes to 2600+ online journals and around 30 print journals. The e-journals include substantial number of backfiles from publishers like AIP, IOP, Nature, Springer, PROLA, Royal Society, Taylor & Francis, Wiley, and World Scientific. Apart from SCOPUS, the Library also subscribes MathSciNet, SciFinder and Faculty of 1000 Biology for searching scholarly bibliographic literature.
The Library extends the special facility of display of books every week by vendors to facilitate selection of latest books.It provides reference service and photocopying services to the user community.
